As a maritime nation, the sea is our lifeline and link to the world. Half of the world's sea trade flows through our Sea Lines of Communication (SLOC), with about 1,000 vessels sailing through our waters everyday, carrying with them important goods such as food, energy and many other things that we need for our livelihood. Beyond that, the maritime industry contributes over 7% to Singapore's Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and employs more than 170,000 personnel. Needless to say, we rely on our sea lanes for our nation's economic livelihood. The brave men and women of the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) are dedicated to preserving the integrity of our nation's lifeline, ensuring that our everyday is defended.

The RSN works closely with internal and external maritime agencies to keep our waters safe 24/7 from all forms of threats to our nation's maritime security, including terrorism, piracy and illegal immigration.

In wartime, the RSN will work to secure a swift and decisive victory over any enemy at sea.

Moreover, the RSN's role also extends beyond our territorial waters. The RSN constantly flies Singapore's flag proudly in distant waters around the globe. The men and women in the RSN serve as ambassadors for our nation by working closely with foreign navies on missions, exercises and military diplomacy exchanges around the world. By co-operating with like-minded nations and being a responsible member of the international community, the RSN is able to not only defend our nation's everyday, but also the world's everyday.
